The Mechanical Engineering Department was established in the year 1981 with an intake of 30 students. The Department with its record of quality diploma holders holds an important position in this part of the world: it is the most comprehensive diploma course in Mechanical Engineering requiring minimum total of 130 credits for award of Diploma with 23 credits of Foundation course, 18 credits of Hard Core Course, 6 credits Soft Core Course, 31 credits for Basic Technology course, 46 credits for Applied Technology course and 6 credits for Electives. Diploma holders in Mechanical Engineering from the Institute have a good blend of theory and practical knowledge and are recognized for the purpose of recruitment to all subordinates posts and services under the State Government, State Government Undertakings, Central Government, Central Government Undertakings and various Public Sectors and Private Sectors companies of the country. Diploma holders in Mechanical Engineering from the Institute are also eligible for undergoing Bachelor of Engineering/Technology courses offered in different Institutes of the country.
