Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering! It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to a dynamic and progressive academic community dedicated to excellence in civil engineering education, innovation, and professional growth. Our department is committed to developing technically proficient, ethically responsible, and socially conscious engineers capable of addressing the infrastructure needs of the modern world. We emphasize a balanced approach between strong theoretical knowledge and practical exposure. Students are encouraged to participate in fieldwork, laboratory experiments, site visits, and project-based learning to gain real-world experience. Our experienced faculty members are devoted to mentoring students and nurturing critical thinking, creativity, and lifelong learning. Civil engineering plays a vital role in nation-building. We inspire our students to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development, environmental protection, and societal welfare through innovative engineering solutions.

History

The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the oldest and core departments of Shillong Polytechnic. It was established in 1965 with an intake capacity of 30 students which was subsequently increased to 60 students in 1978 to accommodate the growing demand for civil engineering education. Since its inception, the department has been committed to producing skilled civil engineers and technicians to meet the growing demands of the construction and infrastructure sectors.

The department offers a 3-year Diploma in Civil Engineering. with an intake capacity of 60 students per batch.
